Every KROK is carved by artisans in Ang Sila, a Thai village world-famous for granite stonecraft. Each mortar takes up to 3 days to shape by hand. We keep limited U.S. stock for fast 2–3 day delivery — once sold out, you wait for the next batch.
Solid Thai granite + natural cork = lighter, quieter, easier to use.

Choosing the Right Mortar & Pestle
Granite offers the ideal balance of weight and texture. Its naturally rough surface grips ingredients and releases more aroma and flavor than smooth materials like ceramic or marble, while staying durable and non-absorptive over time.
From Thai curry pastes and laab to pesto, guacamole, and spice blends — a mortar and pestle crushes ingredients to release essential oils, creating deeper flavor than electric grinders.
For flavor and texture, yes. Crushing ingredients by hand preserves essential oils and gives you full control, while electric blades tend to cut and heat ingredients, reducing aroma.
A medium to large mortar (around 7–8 inches) is the most versatile. It gives enough space to grind efficiently without ingredients spilling, whether you’re making sauces, pastes, or spices.
Rinse with warm water and scrub with a brush — no soap needed. For deeper cleaning, grind a little dry rice or salt to lift oils. Let it air dry completely before storing.
KROK is handcrafted in Thailand from solid granite, using traditional forms optimized for real cooking. A patented cork base makes it lighter, protects your countertop, and reduces noise — designed for everyday use.
