More Capacity, Lighter Weight

We’ve narrowed the walls of the standard mortar to create more capacity (3 cups volume) and to lighten the weight of the tool, while ensuring optimal sturdiness. The unpolished interior of the mortar combined with the unpolished end of the pestle is ideal for crushing and grinding, making any ingredient into your desired texture.

Less Noise, No More Scratches 

Our cork base has numerous benefits: dampening noise as you pound, keeping the mortar from slipping or scratching your countertop, and keeping the total weight of the mortar lighter. Cork is a natural, 100% biodegradable substance that is durable, water resistant and easy to clean. 

Larger Pestle, Better Grip

The major difference in our pestle is length. We wanted it long enough so you would never hit the side of your hand on the mortar.  The upper end of the pestle is narrow enough for comfortable handling while the lower end widens out to make sure no ingredient can hide from your pounding.

Every KROK Mortar and Pestle is unique and individually handmade by highly-skilled craftsmasters in the village of Ang Sila in Thailand. The craftsmasters in this village are known across Thailand for the exceptional quality of their handmade mortars and pestles, and have worked with natural granite for generations. Using traditional methods and tools, the KROK mortars and pestles are made in small batches by these craftsmasters, requiring up to 3 days to complete.

We use the highest quality Thai granite which is one of the strongest stones in the world. Before cooking with the mortar and pestle we advise to condition and season the granite surface to make sure it is even and safe to use. We provide clear guidelines to do so.

We understand that unexpected things can always happen, which is why many of our customers prefer to have a second cork base in case of the unlikely damage of the original cork base.

The cork base is impermeable. Cork trees produce suberin which is a substance that makes cork resistant to moisture and formation of mold or rot. This is why cork is being used as a lid for wine bottles.

We include a free shipping insurance on your order and replace all parts of your mortar and pestle set that might be damaged during shipping.

If you feel that our product did not meet your expectations, please return it back within 30 days. You can let us know in advance if you have any issues regarding any part of your KROK set.
